Gamified and IoT-integrated Approach for Water Industry Education and Outreach

In recent years, an aging workforce and a shortage of new hires have raised concerns about the future of the water treatment industry. However, recent technological advances offer promising solutions to this pressing problem. Our primary goal with this program is to not only address the looming challenges in the fields of water resources, water pollution, and water purification, but also to stimulate strong student interest in these critical topics. We have successfully completed a multi-faceted project that included application development, Raspberry Pi configuration, and the creation of educational lab mini-games around water treatment. Our Raspberry Pi tasks encompass monitoring water temperature and pH, along with using the camera to transmit data to a mobile app for real-time information on water quality. The interactive and enjoyable nature of the included lab mini-games enabled students to learn while having fun, encouraging them to contemplate water pollution and gain insights into the water purification process.
