摘要
e13038Background: The risk of endometrial cancer (EC), the most common gynecologic cancer in the US, is strongly linked to obesity. Recent evidence suggests that the risk of EC is reduced by bariatric surgery, but the mechanisms are as yet unknown. We tested the hypothesis that bariatric surgery results in the amelioration of blood levels of EC risk biomarkers representing three etiological pathways (inflammation, insulin resistance/ metabolic factors, and steroid hormones). We further explored possible racial disparities in the biomarker changes after bariatric surgery between European American (EA) and African American (AA) women. Methods: Serum samples from 107 female bariatric surgery candidates (23.4%AA), (21 - 72 yrs) were obtained presurgery (T1) and 6 mo post-surgery (T2). Biomarkers (measured by Luminex) were chosen based on association with EC in prospective studies and included: leptin, IL1RA, IL-6, SHBG, IGFBP1u00262, C-peptide, insulin, adiponectin, and CRP. Results: Independent linear regression...
