•Z. clinopodioides ameliorated allergen-induced airway inflammation.•Z. clinopodioides downregulated Th2 mediated cytokines, such as, IL4 and IL5.•Z. clinopodioides upregulated aquaporin-1 and aquaporin-5 expression levels.•Lung histopathology showed near normalization of airway inflammation and edema.
