摘要
1517Background: Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) refers to a cluster of conditions typically associated with cardiovascular disease. Evidence suggests that MetS is associated with an increased risk for several tumors, including breast cancer, however few studies have evaluated the relationship between MetS with outcomes after a breast cancer diagnosis. Methods: We evaluated the relationship between MetS and both breast cancer-specific and overall mortality among women with invasive breast cancer in the WHI Observational Study (OS). Individual MetS features measured prior to diagnosis included waist circumference and blood pressure, self-reported history of high-cholesterol and diabetes. MetS was defined as having ≥ 3 of 4 individual features, modified from Adult Treatment Panel III criteria to accommodate available data. Eligible women were followed until date of death or last follow-up. Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate hazard ratios for the association between each individual feature and Me...
