Additive manufacturing of Inconel 718—Copper alloy bimetallic structure using laser engineered net shaping (LENS™)

•Processing of Inconel 718 and copper alloy GRCop-84 as a bimetallic structure using laser engineered net shaping (LENS).•A compositionally gradient layer with high laser energy input helped to process these bimetallic structures.•The bimetallic structure resulted in high thermal diffusivity as compared to pure Inconel 718.•Deposition of GRCop-84 Increased the thermal diffusivity of Inconel 718 by ∼250%.
