•Discovery of Early Neoproterozoic (∼925 Ma) ophiolitic relics within the Lhasa Terrane.•The Fe-Ti enrichment of the RenTso gabbro is due to low f-O2 during magma evolution.•The Lhasa Terrane and Qiangtang terrane have different positions in the Rodinia supercontinent.•The Early Neoproterozoic RenTso ophiolite represents the embryonic crust of the Mozambique Ocean.
