摘要
•New insights are provided on the influence of conducting polymer surface morphology on neuronal signal transduction.•Methods for reproducible synthesis of macroporous PEDOT/PSS alongside are presented.•Macroporous PEDOT/PSS polymerised at 632 mC cm−2 improves electrochemistry of untemplated PEDOT/PSS.•Biocompatibility, viable neuronal recording and stimulation is demonstrated by both untemplated and macroporous PEDOT/PSS coatings.
