THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN URINARY MAGNESIUM EXCRETION AND SUBCLINICAL HYPERTENSIVE TARGET ORGAN DAMAGE

Objectives: To investigate the relationship between the urinary magnesium excretion (24-hour urine magnesium excretion) in hypertensive patients. Methods: 64 cases of clinical patients (hypertension group n = 44,non-hypertensive group n = 20) to detect the 24-hour urinary magnesium concentration and volume, protein-to-creatinine ratio, glomerular filtration rate (GFR), left atrial diameter, interventricular septal thickness, left ventricular wall thickness, left ventricular mass index, arterial elasticity index,PWV and ABI. Comparative analysis the difference of target organ damage between the two groups. Results: The SBP,DBP,mean arterial pressure, Microalbuminuria (182.32 ± 896.19 vs 6.80 ± 6.39 mg/L, p = 0.075), The protein-to-creatinine radio (157.48 ± 587.81vs 6.91 ± 10.62 mg/g, p = 0.003), both sides of the PWV (right: 1752.63 ± 440.33 vs 1414.65 ± 178.02 cm/s, p = 0.001;left:1800.33 ± 460.92 vs 1421.80 ± 166.33 cm/s, p < 0.001), septal thickness (1.05 ± 0.21 vs 0.922 ± 0.11 cm, p = 0.018), left ventricular wall thickness (0.93 ± 0.19 vs 0.84 ± 0.08 cm, p = 0.049)in hypertension group were higher than non-hypertensive group (p < 0.05), The urinary magnesium excretion (2.51 ± 1.01 vs 3.38 ± 1.49 mmol/24 h, p = 0.008), GFR (100.78 ± 29.64 vs120.122 ± 45.59 ml/min, p = 0.046), the main artery elasticity index (9.882 ± 5.25 vs 13.028 ± 5.77 ml/mmHg × 10, p = 0.047) and small artery elasticity index (3.917 ± 2.69 vs 5.994 ± 3.03 ml/mmHg × 100, p = 0.012)was less than non-hypertensive group (p < 0.05). Further analysis found that urinary magnesium excretion in hypertensive group was negative correlation with the PWV (right r = −0.369, p = 0.019, left r = −0.332, p = 0.037), However, no significant correlation with other hypertensive target organ damage indicators was found Conclusion: Urinary magnesium excretion was negatively correlated with bilateral PWV. Urinary magnesium excretion with hypertension was less than that in non-hypertensio
