Origin of the FEM Pattern from C-60 Molecules Adsorbed on Tungsten Tips

We have demonstrated that the C-60 molecules adsorbed on a W tip show highly symmetric FEM patterns that are similar to that of well-defined atomic orbitals [1]. The observed image can be considered to be originated from super atomic molecular orbitals (SAMOs), which is confirmed with STM observations and theoretical calculations [2]. In this paper, we present the results of detailed analysis of field emission features from the C-60 molecules including energy distributions of emitted electrons.
