A simple approach for system level thermal transient prediction

•Thermal design based on system performance target is a direction for cost reduction.•Energy method is applied to simplify an electronics device into a mathematic model.•The concept of an equivalent RC model is used to avoid complicated calculation.•The error of the thermal transient prediction with this method is within 10%.•To optimize system performance before or after the system was built or designed.
