Estimation of co-variance components, genetic parameters and genetic trends of VIAscan carcass traits of New Zealand Romney lambs (vol 174, pg 34, 2019)

•Moderate to high direct heritability estimates were reported for VIAscan carcass traits in New Zealand Romney sheep.•The estimates of direct heritability indicate to the possibility of achieving high genetic progress by direct selection.•Maternal effects were greater than permanent environmental effects and should be taken into account in any breeding program.•A high genetic progress was reported for meat yield% in the loin, leg and whole carcass in the study period.•This report presents valuable information, which is important in designing breeding strategies for VIAscan carcass traits.
