摘要
Introduction: Whilst tobacco smoking has well-established harmful effects, electronic cigarette (EC) products have been branded as a safe alternative to tobacco use. Nonetheless, accruing data debates the cardiovascular safety of EC products too. Hypothesis: We conducted a systematic review of published literature to assess the effects of EC on blood pressure and heart rate. Methods: Published literature was systematically searched from inception up to December 2017 for clinical studies assessing the acute short-term effects of EC (minutes to hours after exposure to vaping) on heart rate (HR), systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). For each eligible study, we used the mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for SBP, DBP, and HR. The pooled MDs for each outcome of interest were calculated by using a fixed effects model. The presence of heterogeneity among studies was evaluated by the I2 statistic. Results: A total of 11 eligible studies (n=283 individuals) were included in the ...
