•We formulate a stiffened gas equation of state (SG-EOS) for compressible liquids.•We propose an exact solution procedure with SG-EOS for quasi-1D nozzle flows.•A direct shock wave searching enables efficient and accurate computations.•The proposed method is applied to quasi-1D converging-diverging nozzle flows.•We validate the proposed method for various nozzle flows.
