Effects of combined expansive agents and supplementary cementitious materials on the mechanical properties, shrinkage and chloride penetration of self-compacting concrete

•The rheological properties of SCC incorporating expansive agents were measured.•The effects of expansive agents on the durability of SCC were evaluated.•Combined expansive agents resulted in significant reduction in shrinkage of SCC.•Synergetic reaction of supplementary cementitious materials and expansive agents improved durability and microstructure further.
