Comparative geochemical study of scheelite from the Shizhuyuan and Xianglushan tungsten skarn deposits, South China: implications for scheelite mineralization

•Differences in W ores and orebody arrangement display from two world-class W deposits.•Scheelite from the Shizhuyuan has M-type tetrad REE pattern, Xianglushan deposit yet has W- and MW-type patterns.•Sulfide stage can form after or before W skarn–greisen stages.
