The detection of the damping of prestressed stay cables repeatedly came in barely reliable results due to beats and superpositions of all types of vibrations. Over the last few decades, the methods for determining the damping have been refined and accelerated by means of new software packages, but the reproducibility of the results for the respective component or the entire system in new measurements and evaluations has not been pursued so far. In the course of laboratory tests and associated verifications, a combined application of the known methods with the verification by the new reproduction method was developed. Regardless of the time of measurement, decay, analysis staff, etc. is determined as the result of a damping corridor instead of a single damping number, in which, depending on the activated damping parameters in the course of excitation, the decay of the component or overall system will be. Using this new method, damping values can be determined reliably, comprehensibly, reproducibly and secure for the operator of the engineering structure. In the course of determining the natural frequencies, a determination of the force in the respective stay cable can be quickly and easily combined.
