•A novel material has been firstly developed to recycle Au(III).•The adsorption capacity of the material toward Au(III) can reach up to 1317 mg/g.•The material fully adsorbs Au(III) with fast kinetics at low concentration solutions.•The material has outstanding adsorption selectivity and reusability.
