This paper presents a detailed analysis of a wireless power transfer (WPT) system for charging multiple electric vehicles (EV) using a single transmitter coil. The transmitter coil is energized by a single high-frequency inverter and is coupled to multiple receiver coils mounted on EVs. The system components and architecture are described and the benefits of charging multiple-EVs using a single transmitter coil are identified. A WPT system capable of charging three-EVs is used for analysis. Two use cases are considered and each use case comprises three EVs charged at equal load voltages but different power levels. The losses and the overall efficiency of the WPT system for both cases is investigated. Simulation results are provided using a design example proving the feasibility of such systems as efficient charging mechanisms.
