Reproductive performance of cows and genetic correlation with weight gains and principal components of traits used in selection of Nelore cattle

•In the herds studied, 58.67% of the heifers were successful for heifer rebreeding.•The heifer pregnancy showed higher genetic variability than other reproductive traits.•No relevant genetic antagonism was observed between female traits and weight gains.•Simultaneous genetic improvements in the traits studied are possible.•Selection based on main components can provide low genetic gains in female traits.
