•334 monovarietal olive oils from three Tunisian cultivars are discriminated.•Gas chromatographic and mid-infrared spectroscopic data are used alone or combined.•Simple PLS1-DA models give better results with GC data than with MIR data.•Multiblock PLS1-DA can improve the results when one source of data is not enough.
