•Novel renin and ACE-inhibitory peptides from mungbean protein hydrolysate.•Enzyme inhibitory activity was enhanced after ultrafiltration separation of peptides.•YADLVE was the most active inhibitor of in vitro activity of renin.•YADLVE produced the most persistent blood pressure reductions in rats.•PGSGCAGTDL was the least effective in blood pressure reduction after 24 h.
