Endogenous steroid hormones in hair: investigations on different hair types, pigmentation effects and correlation to nails.

•An LC–MS/MS method was developed and validated for the quantification of seven steroid hormones in hair.•Five steroids were detected in authentic hair samples.•Differences for steroids were found between body and scalp hair.•Pigmentation had no strong influence on steroid concentrations.•No correlations were found between hair and nail steroid levels.
