Changes in fleece characteristics of yearling Chinese Alashan Left Banner White Cashmere goat

•We described the coat development in Left Banner White Cashmere goat in the first year of life.•Eleven consecutive monthly fleece samples were collected from twelve cashmere goat kids.•The kids carry the down hair since their birth and is shedded at around 5–6 months of age.•The baby down hair shedded during the first moult was finest respect the yearling cashmere.•No moult of the guard hair was observed during the first year of life.
