摘要

•Catalytic features of fcc and hcp Ru NPs were studied by combining chemical and electronic information.•Preferential adsorption of CO2, CO and O2 by fcc Ru 5.4 nm NP have been highlighted.•Overcrowding effects and size dependence directly affect the RuO2 and RuOX concentrations•Valence band occupation correlates with the ORu chemisorption bond.
