Effects of waste-derived ethylene glycol diacetate as a novel oxygenated additive on performance and emission characteristics of a diesel engine fueled with diesel/biodiesel blends

•Ethylene glycol diacetate was introduced as a new oxygenated diesel additive.•Diesel containing 3 vol% additive markedly mitigated nitrogen oxides formation.•The selected fuel blends could significantly mitigate carbon dioxide emission.•Brake thermal efficiency was trivially lower for the most appealing fuel blend.
