Colavita, and co-workers show the cooperative effects induced by the co-presence of pyridinic and graphitic N-sites in metal-free carbon electrodes modulate the binding energy of hydroperoxide/hydroperoxyl intermediates, promoting the selectivity towards 4e-reduction in the oxygen reduction reaction.
