The use of laparoscopy for minimally invasive surgery is widely established. There are several angled lens laparoscopes available that increase the range of operative views and their proficient use requires understanding of the camera construct in order to get the best views with the greatest efficiency. Furthermore, due to the added complexity of laparoscopic surgery, difficulty can arise with communication between the surgeon and the assistant especially if the camera operator has less operative experience (perhaps even assisting in their first operation!) or in the event of difficult anatomy or surgical anatomy. While inexperienced use of an angled laparoscope has been shown to increase both surgical times and patient morbidity.
