•Experimental and numerical parametric investigation for enhancement in heat transfer from the heated cylinder.•Effect of mist loading fraction, Reynolds number and nozzle-to-surface spacing on the enhancement in heat transfer are studied.•High enhancement in heat transfer with high mist loading fraction, low nozzle-to-surface spacing and low Reynolds number.
