•Proper P addition improves the thermal stability of supercooled liquid and AFA.•P substitution expands the crystallization window of FeSiBPCCu alloys.•The p-d hybridization between P and Fe atoms decreases the Bs of amorphous phase.•Relatively low Bs of FeSiBPCCu alloys is associated with low Bs of amorphous phase.•Fe83.3Si2B9P4C1Cu0.7 nanocrystalline alloy is prepared with high AFA and good SMPs.
