Implementation of statistical process control framework with machine learning on waveform profiles with no gold standard reference

•This study adds to the body of knowledge in the field of profile monitoring.•A new type of profiles, sine waves with unknown number of patterns, is considered.•The proposed SPC framework is capable of monitoring waveform profiles with no gold standard reference exists.•The proposed method is better than other widely used profile analysis techniques.
