摘要

•NbGAE6 homologous genes were involved in pectin biosynthesis.•Virus-induced gene silencing system has been successfully exploited for characterization NbGAE6 homologous genes.•The downregulation of NbGAE6 reduced the amount of ‘GalA’ in the homogalacturunan.•HPLC results showed reduced amount of ‘GalA’ is the consequence of HG rather than RGI.
