22q11.2 deletion syndrome is associated with increased mortality in adults with tetralogy of Fallot and pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect

•22q11.2 deletion syndrome is an independent predictor for all-cause mortality.•No differences were seen in risk for late cardiac complications.•Genetic analysis should be considered, as 22q11.2DS is an important risk factor.
