•α-amylase from isolated strain B. subtilis MK1 was immobilized on different carriers.•Immobilized α-amylase on Chitosan-magnetic nanoparticles had the highest immobilization yield %•Immobilization yield % was promoted using Response Surface methodology by 1.5-fold.•Chitosan-magnetic nanoparticles -Enzyme was characterized by FTIR and SEM.•Immobilization process improved the catalytic properties and stabilities of the enzyme.
