Stage specific feeding attributes and mobilization of nutrients in Mexican beetle, Zygogramma bicolorata Pallister on Parthenium hysterophorus L.

•The first instars of Zygogramma bicolorata consumed less weed biomass.•However, they showed higher growth and developmental rates.•In contrast, fourth instars consumed more weed biomass and with higher efficiency.•Findings may aid current mass-rearing efforts for Z. bicolorata in laboratories.
