•Fluid inclusions studies are vital to understand the fluid regime of the deep crust.•Monophase fluid inclusions in granulites are usually secondary, retrograde features.•Multiphase fluid inclusions in garnet are representative of former high grade fluids.•Our results undermine the main pillar of the theory of carbonic metamorphism.
