Use readings of thermocouples to reconstruct the power distribution of HTR-PM

•Power distribution reconstruction method which uses thermocouple readings has been developed.•The reconstruction method has been verified by numerical simulation which proves the method is correct.•The robustness of the method needs to be improved before the method being used in practice.
