Self-powered smart watch and wristband enabled by embedded generator

•A highly compact embedded generator with coaxial topology is proposed.•System performance is validated by testing a compact prototype.•4 times of output energy and 10 times of normalized power density are achieved.•Able to self-power a variety of commercial smart watches and wristbands.
