Genome-wide analysis reveals a regulatory role for G-quadruplexes during Adenovirus multiplication.

•Bioinformatic studies, biochemical, biophysical and interaction assays revealed 15 conserved PGQsin different HAdV species.•The GQs are embedded in the sequences of essential viral genes, namely E1B, E2B, and L3, among others.•Braco-19, a known GQ DNA binding ligand, binds to and stabilizes the HAdV GQ structures.•Braco-19 blocked HAdV replication in human cells.
