Improving the photo-current of poly(3-hexylthiophene): [6,6]-phenyl C71 butyric acid methyl-ester photodetector by incorporating the small molecules

•Effect of phthalocyanine-based material on organic photodetector is studied.•The photo-current can be improved by introducing the phthalocyanine.•Ternary blended architecture is favorable for charge carrier transport.•Wider optical absorption is observed in ternary blended organic photodetector.
