Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: A pilot study for using longitudinal cognitive and neuropsychological testing for functional outcomes.

•Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage can result in long-term cognitive, neuropsychological, and functional deficits.•Historically, outcome data for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage has been centered around gross clinical and radiographic measures.•Cognitive and neuropsychological testing provides metrics for evaluating functional outcomes after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.•Cognitive deficits, neuropsychological disturbances, and daily function improve heterogeneously over time.•Larger studies are warranted to explore the effects of individual treatment modalities on functional recovery and prognosis.
