Perioperative analgesic administration during the 2018 parenteral opioid shortage in the United States – A retrospective analysis

•Parenteral opioid shortage did not increase rates of intraoperative opioid-sparing analgesia.•Resident involvement increased intraoperative opioid dosing after shortage.•Ambulatory day surgeries were associated with decreased intraoperative opioid dosing.
