摘要
•Women in treatment for opioid addiction are likely to use take-home naloxone to attempt reversal of overdose within family or peer communities.•When participants were able to access and replace THN, they saw it as a way of caring for those in their daily lives who could not take care of themselves.•The women with whom we spoke, actively engaged complex family and peer networks to distribute the THN to others who were at risk for opioid overdose.•THN may be an effective strategy to help reduce overdoses for people in marginalized environments, with on-going drug use, and limited resources.
