enteropathy in 1/12 cases. In three cases the cause of the colonic ulceration was not evident and the ulcerated areas were larger and more extensive than in those caused by parasitism or sand. Of the three cases of idiopathic ulceration, 2/3 cases were euthanised for reasons related to their behaviour, these horses were significantly more likely to have idiopathic colonic ulceration than those who were euthanised for other reasons (P = 0.01).
