Our study demonstrated that actin depolymerization kinetics are force-history dependent and that mechanical preconditioning by cyclic force loading significantly enhances bond strength in actin/actin interactions. We hypothesize that this CMR is an important regulatory mechanism underlying cytoskeletal dynamics by affecting the actin depolymerization kinetics and more effective than the traditional catch bond.
