Contemporary Management and Novel Therapies in Ovarian Cancer – Literature Review

Ovarian cancer is characterized by an extremely poor prognosis in women with an advanced stage of this carcinoma. In United States every year 20,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It is the fifth most frequent cause of death from cancer in females and the most common cause of death for 15 years after diagnosis in women with stage III-IV tumors. Among ovarian neoplasms the most frequent are surface epithelial-stromal tumors. Moreover, non-epithelial ovarian tumors are distinguished. This group matters 10% of patients with diagnosed ovarian tumors. Due to a huge variety of ovarian tumors, the following work focuses mainly on the current clinical treatment of the epithelial ovarian cancer. The following paper summarizes current clinical treatment of epithelial ovarian cancer, including surgical procedure, chemoand immunotherapy including modern therapeutic approaches.
