Impact of photovoltaic technology and feeder voltage level on the efficiency of façade building-integrated photovoltaic systems

•Extensive modeling of all conversion steps from BIPV module to grid.•The amount of derating is quantified and highly recommended for façade BIPV.•Loss distribution is strongly impacted by the DC voltage level, efficiency not.•A DC bus of 190 V is in overall most efficient for the examined cases.•Lowering the DC bus voltage is advantageous for cost and efficiency.
