Pain intensity, e-cigarette dependence, and cessation-related outcomes: The moderating role of pain-related anxiety

•Pain intensity was positively related to motivation/attempt to quit e-cigarettes.•Pain intensity was associated with greater negative abstinence expectancies.•These associations were stronger among individuals with high pain-related anxiety.•Pain-related anxiety was related to greater dependence and barriers to quit.•Future work should test if pain-related anxiety predicts cessation trajectories.
