Stability of internal versus external fixation in osteoporotic pelvic fractures – a biomechanical analysis

•Plastic deformation and stiffness were higher in specimens stabilized with internal fixation than in those stabilized with external fixation.•Maximum load did not differ significantly between internal fixation and external fixation.•Submuscular internal fixation is an alternative to external fixation because of better biomechanical properties and advantages in clinical use.
