Air purification behavior of magnesium oxychloride cement combined with Ag/AgBr particle under visible light

As a promising decorating material, magnesium oxychloride (MOC) cement was characterized with a three-dimensional network composed mainly by phase 5 with needle-like structure. AgBr nanoparticle with 200 nm particle size was deposited on magnesium oxychloride cement substrate. The metallic silver nanoparticles were produced from AgBr particle with the irradiation. Thus the composite was prepared containing metallic silver, AgBr and MOC cement. The final products showed high performance for HCHO degradation. The content of magnesium oxychloride cement had an impact on degradation efficiency. The sample with the molar ratio of H2O/MgO 14 showed higher degradation efficiency than other groups. A bottle-like artwork was fabricated based on the prepared composites and tested for HCHO degradation under room temperature and daylight. HCHO with an initial concentration of 50 ppm can be degraded completely within two days.
