•Eupatolide inhibits STAT3 activation to induce NSCLC cell apoptosis.•Sustained activation or knockdown of STAT3 suppressed or enhanced the activity of eupatolide.•This paper firstly reported that eupatolide could effectively inhibit NSCLC progression.
